Age Well Everyday: Keep Dementia at Bay
For many older adults and those living with limited mobility, finding safe and accessible ways to stay active can be challenging. At C3, we believe aging well should be accessible to everyone. That’s why, every Friday, from 10am to 12pm, C3 staff and volunteers invite over 40 elderly beneficiaries to take part in our programme, Age Well Everyday.

What happens during a session of Age Well Everyday?
Each session, we invite our senior beneficiaries to take part in a series of exercises to stimulate both body and mind. These exercises strengthen the legs and arms and train coordination and memory, helping to delay the onset of dementia. For many participants, these weekly sessions have become a regular part of their routine, providing physical benefits as well as a sense of community.
The participants just have to watch our volunteers do simple actions with their arms and legs, then repeat them themselves. Most of these can be done while seated, making them very accessible to our seniors. In order to train coordination and memory, these exercises require them to perform different actions between left and right. Laughter often fills the room as participants encourage one another through the more complex coordination tasks.

A Story from Our Community
One of our participants, Wendy, 76, had knee surgery earlier this year, making it difficult for her to stay active through normal exercise. “Because I had knee surgery, I had to stop dancing. I can still do these exercises though, provided my knee doesn’t act up. Because I cannot stand [for] long.” These exercises are much better suited for her, since she can do most of them while seated on a chair. The few remaining exercises that require standing allow her to hold on to the chair during the exercise.

A Moment of Calm
Instead of the usual stretching routine found in many exercise programmes, the cooldown period invites participants to relax fully. Our volunteers dim the lights and play soothing music, before encouraging everyone to close their eyes and rest in their chairs. This moment of calm helps them unwind both physically and mentally, leaving the room peaceful and refreshed.
More than Exercise
These weekly sessions give our beneficiaries a warm and supportive environment where they can stay active. Many have shared that they look forward to Fridays to meet their friends during and after the exercise sessions. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our supporters, C3 is able to continue offering activities that enhance wellbeing and improve quality of life for older adults in our community.
